Our Early Childhood Groups / Sun & Star group
The Sun and the Star Group are MIC’s two groups of 11 children each (5 months to 3 years old) offering child developmental program according to the principles of Dr. Maria Montessori.
Dr. Maria Montessori (1870-1952) placed the child and the individual development of the child at the heart of her pedagogy. As her scientific observation reinforced the fundamental principle that children of the age group 0 – 3, absorb their environment unconsciously she developed materials that serve to promote specific skills and cognitive abilities.
Our Montessori “prepared environment” is divided in:
An area called “Nido” for children from 5 months until the day they can safely walk. Here you will find special furniture, supporting the development of gross motor skills, materials and activities for fine motor skills, language, and movement.
The “Toddler” area is for children up to 36 months. Materials are available that reflect their respective levels of development – activities for fine motor skills, language, creative design, as well a fully functioning Children’s Kitchen in which the children help set the table, prepare snacks, and jointly enjoy morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea together.
